 MEDIA STATEMENT
 18 JANUARY 2000

ON THE MURDER OF FAIRHEAD FAMLY

The Office of the MEC for Safety, Liaison and Transport has received with shock and anger the terrible news of the loss that has befallen
the members of the Fairhead family. The swift response of the police has to be commended. we appeal to our communities to assist us in
ridding our society of such sick individuals who can sink so low and perpetrate evil deeds of this nature. We request that the police
should leave no stone unturned in the quest to ensure that these ruthless criminals feel the full wrath of the law. We can assure the
public at large that actions of this nature will not be tolerated and allowed to destabilise our hard fought for democracy.

The Office of the MEC would like to express its sincere sympathy to the Fairhead family on their tragic loss and further pledge to ensure
that the police continue to give this investigation priority attention.

We would further like to show appreciation of the response of the police to working long hours which resulted in the speedy arrest and
recovery of the bodies of Mrs Fairhead and her daughter.
